Our History

This distinctive Art Deco-style building has been a feature of Church Street since the mid 1930s, when it was built for the Tamworth and District Electricity Supply Company (TADESCO). A photograph taken in 1974 shows the building still to be in use as ‘electricity’ showrooms, with the central clock tower not yet reduced to its present height. More than 200 years earlier, in 1752, Benjamin Franklin famously flew a silk kite in a thunderstorm. He was notably one of the founders of the United States of America, whose pioneering experiment with the kite was a milestone in understanding electricity.
