J D Wetherspoon has lovingly restored The Unicorn Hotel, situated in Market Place East, Ripon. It is one of Ripon’s oldest and most historic inns. It is the largest building on the Market Place and has featured in many aspects of Ripon’s history since the 17th century. All of the 32 en suite rooms come equipped with unlimited free Wi-Fi and Freeview television. The inn retains much of its historic splendour, while providing modern-day levels of comfort, making it the perfect stay for families, leisure and business.
Please note that this is a grade 2 listed building; as such, it does not have a lift – and rooms are located from the first floor upwards. If you require a lower-floor room, owing to mobility issues or you just prefer fewer stairs, please let us know in advance by phoning the hotel.
The city of Ripon is located in North Yorkshire, on the River Ure. Ripon is a beautiful market town, founded over 1,300 years ago and steeped in history – famous as an old cathedral city, where monasteries have stood since the 7th century.
The old city of Ripon is filled with shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, while also boasting many historical buildings and museums, including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House, Studley Royal, Fountains Abbey and Ripon Spa Gardens, where a Victorian bandstand is set.
A market is held every Thursday on Ripon’s market square, next to its 300-year-old Obelisk, where the Hornblower will sound his horn at 9 o’clock every night. Ripon is wonderfully located in the heart of the countryside, so there’s always plenty to do.
