Castle Street was redeveloped in 1970, when The Swan and Castle was demolished to make way for the County Hall, next to the Ha! Ha! Bar. The Swan and Castle was built in 1896, on the site of the Swan. Both were Hall’s pubs, whose main brewhouse was on nearby Swan’s Nest Island.
