Pub history

Piccadilly Circus gets its name from Piccadilly Hall, which had once occupied part of the London Trocadero site. In the early 17th century, a tailor named Robert Baker bought a large tract of land here, where he built a factory/mansion (marked on several old maps). Piccadilly Hall was where he manufactured fashionable fancy collars, known as ‘piccadils’ or ‘piccadillies’ – which, in turn, became the name of one of London’s best-known areas.
