Pub history

During the 19th century, coal-mining was taking place at several collieries in the south of Gloucestershire. Now a scheduled monument, the Brandy Bottom Colliery site includes two engine houses, a tall chimney and two halves of a winding wheel. The colliery’s first shaft was sunk in 1837. The Hollybush Seam (which had ceased functioning by the 1930s) was one of the site’s main seams. The colliery finally closed in 1936.
