Pub history
This pub is a former Roman Catholic church and adjoining presbytery. The church was built on the site of the inn of the same name which was demolished in the early 1840s. The adjoining property was converted into a presbytery, or priest’s house, in the 1980s. From the 1890s until the 1930s, it had been the Queen’s Livery Stables. It was here that Henry Butler hired out open and closed carriages, wagonettes and hansom cabs.
