Pub history

This pub takes its name from the towering landmark at the heart of the University of Birmingham. The iconic Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower, affectionately known as Old Joe, was completed in the early 20th century. Still the tallest clock tower in the UK, it was built to commemorate the university’s first chancellor. To this day, Old Joe remains a symbol of the university and its community.
