Pub history

Bridgend developed from a tiny hamlet at one end of a medieval stone bridge. By the late 18th century, the town was centred on Dunraven Place and premises such as the Bear Inn. In 1792, the old inn became The Wyndham Arms and later The Wyndham Hotel. Part of the building had been a courthouse and gaol. The name Wyndham is from the ancient local family who provided two local MPs and became the Earls of Dunraven.
