Pub history
In 1642, Sir Thomas Haggerston was created the first baronet of Haggerston. He was succeeded by his son, also Sir Thomas, who was the governor of Berwick. By then, the castle here had burned down, later replaced by a mansion, built by another Sir Thomas Haggerston. By the 1890s, Haggerston House had been enlarged into a 154-room mansion, covering the site of the holiday park’s main complex. In 1911, this was destroyed by fire. Only the tower and rotunda (both grade II listed) remain.
