Pub history

Ferndown stands on a stretch of heathland in what was the Cranborne Hundred, recorded in the Domesday Book of 1089. This ‘hundred’ was an administrative unit in the shire of Dorset, dating back to Anglo-Saxon times. By the 19th century, it contained around 15 parishes, covering 34,000 acres. In 1871, it had a population of 7,365.
