The Robert Hamilton

The pub is named after the man recognised as the founder of Airdrie. The Hamilton family has been connected with Airdrie for centuries. John Hamilton was killed at Flodden Field in 1513 (in the crushing defeat by the English army). The transformation of Airdrie, from a ‘fermtoun’ to a planned village, was initiated by Robert Hamilton. He also promoted the 1695 Act of Parliament which established the Airdrie Fairs.
