Pub history
The Railway
Situated next to Rainham Station, The Railway closed in 2012. The first pints were enjoyed at this well-known pub at the turn of the 20th century, when mild ale was the best-selling beer and the pub was called The Railway Hotel. In 1901, the publican was Stephen Mitchell (43), who lived here with his wife and children. More recently, the pub became known simply as The Railway.
