Pub history
The Crown & Sceptre
The long-standing pub of this name was built in the mid 19th century, when Streatham Hill began to develop into a residential area. In the early 1900s, this pub with a royal name was owned and run by the parents of Sir Norman Hartnell. Born in Streatham in 1901, Hartnell became a leading British fashion designer. He is best known as the official dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth, famously designing both her wedding dress and the coronation gown.
