The Conister Arms

Opening Wed 14 May

Address: 6 Regent Street, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 2EA

The first Wetherspoon pub on the Isle of Man will open on Wed 14 May and will be called The Conister Arms.

The Conister Arms is named after a partly submerged rock in Douglas Bay, called Conister Rock, on which a castle-like structure, the Tower of Refuge, stands – the brainchild of, and partly funded by, local resident and maritime humanitarian Sir William Hillary. It stands as both a visible warning of the dangerous reef and a refuge for mariners. Hillary’s most enduring legacy is as the founder, in 1824, of the RNLI, an organisation dedicated to saving lives at sea throughout the UK and Ireland.

Located in the heart of Douglas city centre, the pub will have capacity for 725 people across four floors, plus an outdoor seating area making it one of the largest hospitality venues on the Isle of Man.

All existing staff from the 1886 Bar and Grill (the former venue) have been offered roles and a further 120 jobs have been created ahead of opening.

The Conister Arms will be open: Sun – Thu, 8am – midnight; Fri and Sat, 8am – 2am.

With food served until 11pm, it’s a good chance to try the food menu, including burgers, pizzas and a range of small plates. The pub will be open throughout the week for family dining, with children (accompanied by an adult) welcome in the pub until 9pm.
