The Squire Knott
Numbers 53–55 Yorkshire Street were purpose built in 1969 for Lloyds Bank. Built on the site of two shops, number 55 was the photographic studio of the unusually named Squire Knott. Knott was at this address from c1858. Twenty years later, he captured late Victorian Oldham in a fine series of photographs. In c1895, his studio and picture-framing business were taken over by his son, who traded here for a further 30 years.
