The Skylark

Heathrow Airport takes its name from the hamlet which stood on the edge of Hounslow Heath. Once covering thousands of acres, the heath is now a 200-acre nature reserve and still home to the skylark. The heath was created when King Henry III swept away the forest, in the 13th century. By the 17th century, it was frequented by highwaymen, notably Moll Cutpurse.
