Pub history
The Ice Wharf
The site of this public house and hotel was previously occupied by an old-fashioned grocery store where provisions were weighed on a brass balance. Before World War II, there was a builder and carpenter’s business here, since c1900. Earlier still, there were timber yards here, alongside the waterfront. The ice wharf, which was also a feature of the waterfront, has long gone, but is recalled in the name of this pub.
