Pub history
The Mockbeggar Hall
This former branch of the Birkenhead & District Co-operative Society was built in c1950. ‘The Co-op’ traded here for more than 40 years. The pub’s name refers to nearby Leasowe Castle, built in 1583, by Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby. The earls owned the manor of Moreton. Originally, the castle was just an octagonal tower. By 1700, it was run down and had got the name ‘Mockbeggar Hall’. However, the castle was later restored and extended.
