The Moon Under Water, Balham

Several Wetherspoon pubs have ‘moon’ in their name, linking them with the fictitious pub described in detail by George Orwell. One of Britain’s greatest writers, he called his ideal pub ‘Moon Under Water’. Until the 1980s, this particular Moon Under Water was the long-time showroom of The London Electrical Company. The premises are part of a parade built in the 1940s. During the 1930s, the electrical company had occupied Victorian buildings on the same site.
