The Last Post
For over 60 years, this Georgian-style building was Loughton’s main post office. Built in c1930, it was designed by Archibald Scott (from HM Office of Works) and became The Last Post in 1994. Loughton had a ‘posting house’ in the early 19th century. By 1832, there was a letter box at the corner of High Road and Forest Road. The telegraph for long-distance messages was introduced in 1871 and the telephone in 1906.
