Pub history

Carmarthen’s old oak (yr hen dderwen) stood at the junction of Priory Street and Old Oak Lane for over 300 years. This famous landmark is said to have sprung from an acorn planted in 1659 by a master at the grammar school. Fragments of the oak tree can be seen in St Peter’s Civic Hall and the County Museum. Its name lives on in this public house which was purpose built in 1957 for Boots the Chemist.
