Pub history
The Tivoli
Since the early 1990s, 16 Chesterton Road has been a series of nightclubs, bars and live-music venues. The distinctive-looking building first opened its doors to the public in 1925 as the Tivoli. Designed by local architect Geoffrey P Banyard, ‘Chesterton’s Super Cinema’ opened on 19 March. It was the second purpose-built cinema in Cambridge. The Tivoli closed in 1956, but the building is still a local landmark.
