The Silk Kite
This distinctive Art Deco-style building has been a feature here since the mid 1930s, when it was built for the Tamworth and District Electricity Supply Company (TADESCO). A 1974 photograph shows it as ‘electricity’ showrooms. More than 200 years earlier, in 1752, Benjamin Franklin famously flew a silk kite in a thunderstorm. He was notably one of the founders of the United States of America, whose pioneering experiment with the kite was a milestone in understanding electricity.
