Pub history
The Gaffers Row
Until 1958, the site of this pub and the area around it were both covered by terraced housing, built for railway workers. Gaffers’ Row, built for the railway company’s foremen, is almost next door. Little is now left as a reminder that Crewe was one of the world’s great railway centres. Gaffers’ Row has survived and is separated from this site by the open space which leads into the bus station.
