Wetherspoon’s real-ale fans are set for a fantastic October.

Customers will have the opportunity to enjoy three champion beers in the run-up to the pubs’ real-ale festival.

During Sunday 1 – Tuesday 10 October (inclusive), the pubs will be serving the three winners of the Champion Beers of Britain from the recent Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Great British Beer Festival, held at Olympia London.

The winning beers are Salopian Darwin’s Origin, Greene King Abbot Ale and Elland Brewery 1872 Porter.

Tasting notes:

Salopian Darwin’s Origin 4.3% ABV
Salopian Brewery, Shropshire. Est. 1995
This multiaward-winning beer is light copper in colour, with its flavour evolving into a fruity hop character, balanced by a refined malt finish. It was recently voted CAMRA’s ‘champion session bitter of Britain’, for 2023, and overall bronze-medal winner at the Great British Beer Festival.
Hops: Centennial, Mosaic

Greene King Abbot Ale 5.0% ABV
Greene King Brewery, Suffolk. Est. 1799
Masses of fruit character, with a malty richness and superb hop balance.
Hops: Challenger, First Gold, Fuggles, Pilgrim

Elland Brewery 1872 Porter 6.5% ABV
Elland Brewery, Elland, West Yorkshire. Est. 2002
A rich, complex, dark ruby porter from an 1872 recipe, this has an old port nose, along with coffee and bitter chocolate flavours from four malts, including finest Maris Otter, and its English hops.
Hops: Fuggles, Northdown, Target

This will be followed by the company-wide real-ale festival during 11 – 22 October, inclusive.

Up to 30 real ales will be available, including five from overseas.

Following the beer festival, each pub will also be serving a new range of guest ales.

Wetherspoon’s marketing manager, Jen Swindells, said: “We always aim to offer customers the best choice of real ales.

“October is set to be a fantastic month for real-ale fans.

“We are confident that they will enjoy each of the champion beers available in the pubs – which will then lead in to the real-ale festival.”
