Local attractions

Barrow’s most popular free-entry tourist attraction is the Dock Museum, located 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel.

The local island of Walney hosts two world-renowned nature reserves, and the South Lakes Safari Zoo is one of Europe’s leading conservation zoos and has been voted Cumbria’s best tourist attraction in five non-consecutive years.

The historic ruins of Furness Abbey and Piel Castle, both managed by English Heritage, are also popular tourist destinations.

Local transport

Buses run every 60 minutes to Kendal. There is a regular train service to Lancaster and Carlisle. Local taxis are also available.

Parking

We have seven car-parking spaces available on a first-come-first-served basis. There are pay-and-display car parks located near the hotel which are available for both long- and short-term stays; these are free during 6pm–8am and all day Sunday and bank holidays. Directions

Walking from the train station, turn left out of the train station onto Abbey Road, then right at the traffic lights and continue for three minutes – the hotel is on your left.

By car from the A590, when entering Barrow, turn left after the fire station (before the football ground). At the set of traffic lights, turn right and follow the road straight down. This brings you onto Abbey Road, where you turn right at the traffic lights. The hotel is on your left at the next set of traffic lights.
